| The BrowseAloud software, which was recently installed on Council’s website, gives people the option to hear, see and track words as they are spoken.
Portfolio Councillor for Human Services Judi Harris said BrowseAloud helped people with learning and literacy difficulties, dyslexia, mild vision impairments and those who speak English as a second language, to better understand online information.
“The internet is one of the first places people go to find things out and it’s therefore important that the information we make available online is accessible to all people,” she said.
Mildura Rural City is one of nine Victorian Councils participating in a twelve month trial of BrowseAloud.
“Ensuring everyone in our community has access to Council resources, services and information is an ongoing challenge and we are constantly looking at techniques and strategies to improve accessibility. BrowseAloud is an exciting concept that hopefully will make accessing Council via the internet a little easier for people.”
To use the BrowseAloud feature and have information on Council’s website read aloud simply click on the BrowseAloud logo on Council’s homepage www.mildura.vic.gov.au and follow the instructions.
